Resplendent Radiance is a part of my series of paintings inspired by the dynamic colors of Sunrise and Sunset. In this painting I really wanted the Sun to be a part of the image and to inform the color palette of both the Sunrise and Sunset. Here, the Women are gathering and circling to celebrate the Sun and the way the Sun is constantly changing in our sky.
I started with a brush pen filled with black ink and I played with drawing the Sun. I wanted the Sun to have vibrancy, energy and movement, and for those to move throughout the hair of the women surrounding the Sun as well.
The Sun is so important to our lives. The Sun is one of the energy sources that allows us to grow and thrive. It’s been very interesting diving into this beautiful series of paintings about the Sun, Sunrise and Sunset. I’m such a child and worshiper of the Moon that some part of me has taken the power of the Sun for granted. This series started from me being bowled over by the absolutely stunning colors that are at Sunrise and Sunset. There have been times when I have been so moved by the striking colors in the sky, that I’ve had to pull over while driving just to bear witness to such glory. As I continued to work on this series, I dropped deeper into the understanding of the Sun’s beauty, life giving nature, as well as the destruction that the Sun can create.
The Women or Goddesses in this painting represent the relationship shared by the Earth and the Sun. Earth’s dependence upon the Sun is multifaceted: The Sun provides the light that grows flowers, the heat that warms the water and soil, and the light that helps our bodies maintain their health. Simultaneously, the reflection of the Sun’s light allows us to see the Moon. My hope is that you will feel my newly found respect and passion for the Sun through this painting.
